Vigilante Truth teamed up with Safe House Project, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to “Rescue, Restore, and Reintegrate victims of sex trafficking.” This mission is carried out by their vision to support safe houses that provide these opportunities for rescued victims.
Last week, Vigilante Truth was able to give Safe House Project $50,000 towards the building of a new Safe House here in the United States!
A few Statistics that Safe House Project has on their Website to show the horrifying reality of trafficking are…
- Every 2 minutes a child is sold as a sex slave.
- 4.8 Million people are trafficking victims around the world.
- 300,000 American children will be trafficking this year.
- Approximately 3,000 children will be rescued.
- There are less than 100 beds in the United States for child victims of sex trafficking.
- Without a safe place to go, 80% of victims will end up back in the hands of their trafficker.
When a child is rescued, there are 3 places that they can go IF they cannot go home:
- Juvenile Detention
- Mental Institution
- Foster Care
As stated above, there are only 100 beds in the United States for the 3,000 children that will be rescued this year and the 300,000 TOTAL children who will be trafficked this year.
Part of the solution of the anti-trafficking community is to provide safe places for PROPER restoration to take place. This proper care after rescue requires years of assistance to get back into the swing of things. If there are only 100 beds open…those 100 beds will be filled for AT LEAST a couple years. The lack of Safe Houses is only making it easier for the traffickers to get their hands back on their victims.
Although we – Vigilante Truth – do not directly focus on the rescue and restoration of victims (because we are on the demand side) this is a required part of ending sex slavery in the United States. Because of this, we want to do what we can to help out our partner organizations. In this case, $50,000 will go such a long way in the funding for a Safe House right here in the United States.
